Ulf holds a position dedicated to ensuring quality management and reproducibility in the biomedical sciences. One of his main tasks is to organize trainings in reproducible workflows and in transparency in data management and processing. His background is in behavioral and neurobiology, but he has also worked with psychologists and now with biomedical scientists.

Dr. Wolfgang Forstmeier
Max Planck Institute for Ornithology, Seewiesen

Wolfgang is a behavioral ecologist, who has made significant contributions to promoting open science. He is experienced in the use of pre-registrations for increasing reproducibility in the biological sciences.

Content

The main goal of the workshop is to sensitize the new generation of scientists for the importance of transparency and reproducibility in science. The workshop will cover the whole range of topics from the organization of reproducible workflows from study design, data collection, data analysis and data storage. This will also include the smart use of software tools. Furthermore, the workshop will introduce novel methods that aim to increase transparency and reproducibility, including the option of pre-registrations. The workshop aims to present (and discuss) a range options and how they can be matched to the specific requirements of individual participants.

Target audience

PhD students and postdocs as well as other interested members of the NC³. Space permitting, we would also like to invite students from the IMPRS at the Max Planck Institute for Chemical Ecology. Students from the IMPRS have a similar background, so that this would not impair the focus of the workshop. On the contrary, this will offer scope for interactions within and beyond the NC³.
